Picasa allows users to tag their photographs with locations on a google map. This is an excellent resource for teaching both geography and culture. By showing actual photographs, either taken firsthand or off the internet, students learn what specific areas look like, and then immediately draw a connection to its place on the map. Furthermore, amongst the map options there are tabs for a roadmap, terrain, a satellite view, and a google earth view. This further allows students to understand the area more in-depth. Finally, the albums can be set up to allow the students themselves to upload their own photos and tag the area that it was taken from on the map. This promotes collaboration and learning amongst peers.
